Key Worker/Link Worker

If you live in a Children’s Home one of the Residential Social Workers will be your “Link Worker”.  A “Link Worker” is a person who takes special responsibility for all the administrative stuff that is involved in looking after you. They will be the person who makes sure that your Care Plan in the Children’s Home has all the right information on it.  They will be the person who attends your reviews and the person who talks to your school about your education.  They also have to make sure that you have your medical checks and will sort out clothes and toiletries that you may need.

Your Link Worker will also want to meet with you often to talk about anything that you need, and about any worries that you may have. You may have more than one Link Worker as there is a lot of work involved in caring for you, and this will also mean that if your Link Worker is not at work for any reason, someone else in the Children’s Home will know all the important information about you.

It is important to know that all Residential Social Workers in a Children’s Home work to look after all children and care equally about everyone.  So even though your Link Worker does a lot of the work especially for you, they also care for the other children and young people.  If your Link Worker is busy or not at work other members of staff will be ready to listen and care for you.
