Rights and responsibilities

Young people “in care” have a number of Rights. Some of these are explained in this file. These Rights are written in The Children Act.  There are other important Rights that all people have and it is important to find out as much as possible about these so that you always know how you should be treated by other people.

However, everybody else has Rights too!   Everybody then has the responsibility of making sure that they respect each other’s Rights.  No one should pick on, bully, tease, steal from, be rude to, hurt or abuse other people.  This applies to adults, children and young people.

You should be treated with respect and fairness and you should treat other people the same way
