Sleepovers
When you are being looked after by Children, Schools and Families, it is really important that you get to do all the things that other young people of your age are able to do. You may want to go and stay overnight at a friend’s house or maybe have one of your friends to a sleepover at your house.
If you live with foster carers it will be up to them to decide whether or not you can stay over at a friend’s house. You would expect them to find out if it is OK with your friend’s parents or carers and to tell them about anything they need to know about you, such as if you are allergic to anything or need to take medicine. Your foster carers may also let your friends stay overnight at their house, but remember they will have to decide whether it is a good time to have visitors and whether they would like a particular person in their house overnight. Your foster carers will also have to think about other people that live in their home and whether it is OK with other members of the family to have your friend stay overnight.
If you live in a Children’s Home, your carers will also have to decide if it is a good idea for you to stay at a particular friend’s house overnight. However, your friend would not be able to stay in the Children’s Home overnight because of the regulations about Children’s Homes. However, they may visit for other parts of the day and stay for meals if the staff agree.
