The Human Rights Act
The Human Rights Act became law in 2000. It lists the Rights that all human beings should have. Young people have these Rights too, and it is important to know that law now protects these Rights.
Some of the things that the Act says are that all human beings have the Right to:
Life
Freedom from torture
Freedom and safety
A fair trial
A family and private life
Practise their religion
Express themselves freely
Get married and have a family
Education
It may be that you feel that somehow the way that you are treated goes against the things that this Act talks about. If so, you should discuss it with your social worker or carer or an advocate.
