Discipline

You should have many good times with your carers and many of the things that you do with them will be fun and enjoyable.  They will try their best to make you feel cared for and that you are valued and important.  They will also stop you doing things that may hurt you, or may hurt others.  You may not always think that they are right when they do this.

A big part of their job is to help you learn how to behave so that you don’t get into trouble at school, with the police or with others.  They will also try to help you learn ways of behaving that help you to make friends and get on with others.

This means that if you do something that causes others sadness or hurt, you can expect your carers to talk to you about this and find a way of making things right for everyone..  They may also choose  to stop you doing things at times if it not felt safe or they would like you to think about your behaviour. If you cause damage to things that are not yours, you may have to pay for them to be mended or replaced out of your own pocket money.

There are a number of things that carers are not allowed to do to discipline you which are listed in the Section on “Making it Right”.
