Education Maintenance Allowance

All young people who are in the care of the local authority are eligible to claim the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) if they go on to further education or relevant training after year 11.  You will be able to get application forms from your school or college.  The form is quite simple for young people in care to complete but your social worker will be happy to help you with this.  It is also essential that your social worker provides a supporting letter with your application confirming that you are looked after by the local authority.
